Joshua Scott Chasez, better known as "JC," was adopted at around age 5 by Roy Chasez, a technology consultant, and his wife, Karen, an editor. The couple had served as foster parents to his biological mom at one time, and she entrusted them with her son's care. In his youth, Chasez's love of dancing and singing pulled him out of his shy behavior. After winning a national dance competition at 13, Chasez earned a spot on The Mickey Mouse Club, where he met cast member Justin Timberlake.
Once their Mousketeers days passed, Chasez and Timberlake connected with another singer, Chris Kirkpatrick. They decided to form a group, N'Sync, along with Joey Fatone and Lance Bass, in 1996. The quintet made a splash producing pop in Europe and then America. Their self-titled album sold more than a million copies stateside with such hits as "I Want You Back," "Tearin' Up My Heart," "God Must Have Spent a Little More Time on You" and "I Drive Myself Crazy."
A Christmas album followed in 1999 as well as more new music on the album No Strings Attached. Chasez wrote several songs on this release, which finished as the best-selling album of 2000; it also earned N'Sync a Grammy nomination for the tune "Bye Bye Bye." After their fourth album, in 2001, the five-time platinum Celebrity, Chasez and the others decided to split up to pursue independent projects.
Chasez released his one solo album, Schizophrenic in 2004. It offered up some fairly risqué lyrics and song titles, including "All Day Long I Dream About Sex" and "One Night Stand." He helped write 16 of the 17 tracks. The song "Blowin' Me Up (With Her Love)" was the most popular and was accompanied by a music video with Tara Reid, whom Chasez had dated.
This N'Sync alum is now embraced in all facets of music. Chasez has written songs for the Backstreet Boys, David Archuleta of American Idol fame and others. In 2013, he revealed that he's putting together an all-female ensemble, Girl Radical, and hopes their journey will be the focus of a reality-television show. No stranger to TV himself, Chasez judged several seasons of MTV's reality competition show "America's Best Dance Crew."
