He is also a medical doctor and specialist in Biology and Sports Medicine and Dietary and Nutritional Medicine. Jean-Louis Etienne embarked on his expeditions and adventures in 1975 when he led an expedition to the Fitz Roy mountains in Patagonia. Since then he has organized numerous expeditions both by boat and on foot. In 1976, with Alain Colas, he challenged the Atlantic crossing record and in 1977/78 sailed around the world with Eric Tarbarly. He led an assault on Everest via the North Face in 1983 and was the first man to walk solo to the North Pole in 1986. Jean-Louis has led educational and scientific trips to Antarctica including crossing the Antarctic continent in 1989/1990. Author of a number of scientific books and tales of his exploits Jean-Louis is a spell binding speaker.
