Jeff Burton started his career with the Stavola Brothers but was picked up by the high-dollar Roush Racing team for the 1996 season. Things were really looking up in Jeff's career and the wins started to come. But Jeff has just never had the magic chemistry that leads a driver to a title. Sponsorship problems started to appear in 2003 and the team ran the entire 2004 season largely unsponsored. Lack of solid funds has really hurt Jeff's performance.

During 2004 Jeff left Roush Racing to build the long-struggling but well funded Richard Childress Racing.

In 2006 Jeff Burton and Richard Childress racing, both found their stride. Jeff not only made The Chase but won in Dover and was leading the points for much of the 10 race Championship battle.

Burton came very close to winning the 50th running of the Daytona 500. He qualified 36th and by the end of the race had worked his way up in the field. He led prior to the race's final caution, but when the green flag dropped with four laps to go, lost several positions and wound up finishing 13th.

In 2013 Richard Childress Racing announced that Burton would not be returning to RCR in 2014.
