Jeff Martin
Former Apple Marketing Executive in Digital Strategy; Founder of Tribal Brands and Global Investor
Tribal Planet’s Founder and CEO is Jeff Martin, a seasoned Silicon Valley executive who has spent his career applying innovation to multimedia product design. Referenced by the San Francisco Chronicle as Steve Jobs’ “marketing whiz,” Martin spent ten years at Apple, six of which he was Head of Music, Entertainment, and Marketing. Jeff Martin was instrumental in the strategy and marketing for the iMac and Mac OS X, and the strategy for iPhoto and iTunes.
Jeff’s visionary thought leadership, ability to predict consumer trends and product ideation has made him a successful corporate leader, sought after speaker and advisor. Jeff Martin combines his creativity, knack for innovation and his ability to foresee the future of the mobile marketplace to build successful first-to-market products.
In 2001, Martin founded Tribal Brands, Inc., the first company to drive one billion dollars in mobile-based sales for the entertainment industry through several global carrier alliances. Martin led the merger of Tribal Brands and Tribal Technologies to launch Tribal Planet in 2014 – a company focusing on increasing mobile mindshare meaningful.
In 2010, Jeff Martin partnered with the Citta Foundation to found mPowering, a 501(c)(3) organization that helped the poor help themselves out of poverty by combining mobile technology with on-site programs in economically challenged regions. mPowering was featured on NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams, Discovery Channel, and CNN.
Martin is also a co-investor and board member of Plex (an innovative centralized home media playback system with a powerful central server) and former advisor and co-investor in VideoSurf (acquired by Xbox).
Martin was the international digital imaging consultant for Graphic Arts Technical Foundation (GATF) – one of the original Media Labs. Through GATF, Martin taught at Carnegie Mellon University’s Graduate School of Industrial Administration (GSIA) where he developed the lab’s consulting and innovation business with Apple, Adobe, US Department of Treasury, Gannet and Carvajal SA. Martin also taught at Haas’ Executive Education Program for the University of California at Berkeley, as well as at MIT. Stanford University commissioned Martin to co-author a white paper on the vision of “game theory” applied to mobile commerce. Passionate about making “social good the currency of brand reputation,” Jeff Martin is also a key advisor and strategist for global organizations and was appointed by the Under-Secretary General of the United Nations to its Global Advisory Board for Innovation. Martin is also a voting member of The Recording Academy / Grammy Awards
