Jeffrey M. Jones is an assistant director and a research fellow at the Hoover Institution.

Jones specializes in welfare reform and workforce investment policy and actively studies American values and culture. He is primarily interested in redesigning federal and state welfare measures so as to encourage meaningful work and individual responsibility. His research also has a strong emphasis on the root causes of and solutions to the problem of homelessness.

Jones' poverty-related articles routinely appear in the Hoover Digest. His op-eds have been published in the Orange County Register, the San Francisco Chronicle, the San Jose Mercury News, and on the FoxNews web site. He is also coauthor, with Hoover research fellow David Davenport, of a Policy Review essay entitled "The Politics of Literacy."

As assistant director for operations, Jones works closely with the director and senior administrators at Hoover to develop and implement projects essential to the advancement of the Institution. Projects he undertakes focus particularly on capital and long range planning, VIP visitors and events, and communications and outreach.

Prior to his Hoover appointment, Jones worked as a research assistant with the Solimar Research Group, where he coauthored Smart Growth in Action: Housing Capacity and Development in Ventura County. Jones also served as executive director of Promised Land Employment Service, a nonprofit organization that provides job skills training to low-income, unemployed, and/or underemployed homeless individuals, as well as other economically disadvantaged residents. He was a federal VISTA volunteer and finalist for the Presidential Management Internship program.

Jones graduated from Wheaton College in Illinois with a BA in political science. He received a master's of public policy degree specializing in economics and American politics from Pepperdine University. He lives in Menlo Park with his wife, three young daughters, and a son.
