Jeffrey McCracken is a team leader for Bloomberg News, overseeing coverage of mergers and acquisitions, IPOS and restructuring. His team is responsible for covering deals, public offerings and corporate restructuring. Previously, McCracken was a reporter for The Wall Street Journal where he oversaw M&A coverage for North America since 2009 before joining Bloomberg in July 2010. He also spent several months in 2010 working with Steve Rattner on his book about the GM and Chrysler bailouts. McCracken joined the Journal as reporter based in Detroit covering Ford, auto suppliers and the United Auto Workers in2005 and began covering bankruptcy and distressed companies in January 2008. Prior to joining the Journal, McCracken covered the automotive industry and politics for the Detroit Free Press since 2000. He covered Ford, GM, Chrysler, auto suppliers and the UAW. McCracken also held positions with Crain’s Detroit Business and The Macomb Daily in Mt. Clemens, MI. In March 2009, McCracken and a team of reporters won an award from the Society of American Business Editors and Writers in the Enterprise category for their December 29, 2008 page-one article “The Weekend That Wall Street Died.” McCracken received a bachelor’s degree in journalism and political science from Wayne State University in Detroit and a law degree from Wayne State University Law School. He currently resides with his wife and 2 children in Edgewater, New Jersey.
