Jennifer Block

Journalist Focused on Women, Health & Power; Author of "Everything Below the Waist"

Jennifer Block is a freelancing journalist whose work focuses on women, health and power. Her work has been printed in The Washington Post Magazine, Newsweek, The Cut, The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times and The Guardian.

Block's 2007 book, "Pushed," was named a Best Book of 2007 by Kirkus Reviews. That release led to the public turning its attention to the maternity care crisis in the United States.

Her 2019 book "Everything Below the Waist" explores why the life expectancy of American women is declining relative to women in other high-income countries. She says that even in today's "Age of Empowerment," women's bodies -- and sex lives -- can still be medically controlled.
