National and State Political Outlook.

In a talk that can focus on national and/or state politics, veteran political analyst Jennifer Duffy shares insights with audiences about the current political environment, national and state political trends, and upcoming elections, forecasting the states to watch and the likely results. One of the few experts on governors’ races, she believes that looking at states is the best way to determine national voting trends. States can get done what Congress cannot, and they serve as a microcosm for the country at large. Duffy addresses the key voter trends and demographics, the issues that drive elections, the state of the political parties, the political health of Congress and the President, and what we can expect in the 2014 midterms and beyond (spoiler: she predicts 2018 will be a very dramatic year). She also looks at how technology has changed elections (polls are no longer good enough!) and how Republicans’ redrawing of the district maps shored up their own base while unintentionally creating Democratic strongholds. Incorporating up-to-date examples from the past week of news and fascinating facts in each presentation, Duffy share the caliber of political insights only found at the Cook Political Report, Washington’s most trusted source of all political news.
