Jennifer Gardner Trulson
Author, Philanthropist, and 9/11 Widow.
Jennifer Gardner Trulson was living her ideal life in New York City until it changed forever on September 11, 2001. Her husband, Douglas B. Gardner, was the Executive Managing Director of Cantor Fitzgerald, working on the 105th floor of the World Trade Center. Gardner was among the 658 Cantor Fitzgerald employees who perished in the terrorist attacks. As a result, Trulson created the Douglas B. Gardner Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping at-risk children in New York.
Trulson is the author of Where You Left Me, a memoir which was named Best Non-Fiction of October 2011 by the readers of Elle magazine. With unvarnished emotion and clear-eyed sardonic humor, Trulson tells an ordinary woman's extraordinary tale of unimaginable loss, resilience, friendship, love, and healing—which is also New York City's narrative in the wake of September 11. Where You Left Me is an unlikely love story, a quintessentially New York story—at once Trulson's tribute to the city that gave her everything and proof that second chances are possible.
Trulson has been featured on the Today Show, 20/20, and has had an essay published in Harper’s Bazaar. In conjunction with the 10th anniversary of 9/11, she spoke in conversation with the Chief Executive Officer of Cantor Fitzgerald, Howard W. Lutnick, at the Jewish Community Center in Manhattan where Trulson was a board member for ten years. She is still integrally involved with the Jewish Community Center.
Trulson was a lawyer at the New York Times Company, graduated from Tufts University, and received a J.D. from Harvard. She lives with her husband and two children in Manhattan.
