Jennifer Grey

Actress; Best known for her Roles in "Dirty Dancing" and "Ferris Bueller's Day Off"; Winner of Season 11 of "Dancing with the Stars"

Jennifer Grey began her career dancing in an ad for Dr. Pepper in 1979. She studied acting at the New York-based Neighborhood Playhouse under the coaching of Sanford Meisner. Professionally, Jennifer Grey’s work in the entertainment field began backstage, as she worked as an understudy for the New York production of “Album.”

After working with small roles on various films such as “Reckless,” “Red Dawn,” “The Cotton Club,” “Red Dawn” and “American Flyers,” Grey garnered attention as Jeanie’s sister in the 1986 hit movie “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.” However, it was in 1987 when Grey reunited with ‘Red Dawn’ star Patrick Swayze in the award-winning movie “Dirty Dancing” that made her a star. Trained in both acting and dancing, Grey was able to pull off her role as Frances “Baby” Houseman impressively. She even earned her first Golden Globe nomination for “Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture - Comedy/Musical” for her work on ‘Dirty Dancing’ in 1988.

In 1990, Jennifer Grey made her TV-movie debut with the NBC “Murder in Mississippi.” The following year, she appeared in the feature film “Wind” with Matthew Modine. Grey then made her Broadway debut in the production of “Twilight of the Golds” in 1993. She followed this up with movies such as “Lover’s Knot” and “Portraits of a Killer.”

By mid-90s, Grey became a favorite guest star in TV shows. After appearing in the HBO law drama telefilm “Criminal Justice” and USA Network’s 1993 thriller TV-movie “A Case for Murder,” Grey made a memorable appearance on the hit NBC show “Friends,” where she portrayed Rachel’s former best friend Mindy in a 1995 episode entitled “The One with the Evil Orthodontist.” That same year, she appeared in the CBS telefilm “The West Side Waltz,” alongside Liza Minnelli and Shirley MacLaine.

In 1999, Grey co-starred in the ABC sitcom “It’s like, you know…,” where she played an actress named Jennifer Grey. Other recent credits of Grey include the 2000 movie “Bounce,” the 2001 horror “Ritual,” the 2006 Lifetime TV movie “Road to Christmas” where she co-starred with husband Clark Gregg, and the 2008 films “Redbelt” and “Keith.” Grey was also seen in the TV shows “John from Cincinnati” and “Tales from the Crypt Presents: Ritual.” She also lent her voice for the hit cartoon “Phineas and Ferb” in 2008 and 2009. To the delight of her fans, Grey signed on as a contestant for Season 11 of ABC's "Dancing with the Stars."
