Chief Executive Officer at LanzaTech

Dr. Jennifer Holmgren is the Chief Executive Officer of LanzaTech, a revolutionary carbon recycling company, which extracts carbon from the air and converts it into materials used to manufacture everyday products. Under her guidance, LanzaTech is working towards developing a variety of platform chemicals and fuels, including the world’s first alternative jet fuel derived from industrial waste gases. She is also a Director and the Chair of the LanzaJet Board of Directors.

In 2022, LanzaTech was the only American finalist for the Earthshot Prize, Prince William's award for the people and companies making meaningful strides in fighting climate change. Earlier, Dr. Holmgren and her LanzaTech team had been awarded the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Presidential Green Chemistry Award.

A chemist by expertise, Dr. Holmgren has over 20 years of experience in the energy sector, including a proven track record in the development and commercialization of fuels and chemicals technologies. She has authored or co-authored 50 U.S. patents and more than 30 scientific publications. Prior to joining LanzaTech, Dr. Holmgren was Vice President and General Manager of the Renewable Energy and Chemicals business unit at the petroleum company UOP LLC, a Honeywell Company. In that role, she was one of the key drivers of UOP’s leadership in aviation biofuels.

Dr. Holmgren was the first woman awarded the Malcolm E. Pruitt Award from the Council for Chemical Research; she is also a recipient of the Leadership Award from the Civil Aviation Alternative Fuels Initiative and the BIO Rosalind Franklin Award for Leadership in Industrial Biotechnology. Other accolades include her being named #1 of the 100 most influential leaders in the Bioeconomy; receving the Global Bioenergy Leadership Award and the William C. Holmberg Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Advanced Bioeconomy; and earning the Edison Achievement and Prix Voltaire Awards. In 2023, Dr. Holmgren appeared on Forbes' "50 Over 50" list for her innovative work in the industry.

She currently serves on the boards of The National Renewable Energy Laboratory Biofuels Advisory Committee, the only US national laboratory solely dedicated to advancing and developing renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies and practices; EcoMotors, who are developing high-efficiency liquid fuel engines for use anywhere conventional gas or diesel powertrains are utilized; and the Roundtable for Sustainable Biofuels Services Foundation, where she is involved with the RSB certification process, which is now accepted as one of the standards in the biofuels industry.
