Co-Founder & Chairman of Purpose; Best-Selling Author; Lifelong Activist & World-Renowned Expert on Building Social Movements

Jeremy Heimans is an Australian entrepreneur, political activist, and the co-founder and chairman of Purpose, a Public Benefit Corporation with a global presence across six continents. Purpose is dedicated to building and supporting movements that advocate for an open, just, and habitable world. Among his other notable co-founding ventures are GetUp!, an Australian political organization with a larger membership than all of Australia's political parties combined, and Avaaz.org, the world’s largest online citizens’ movement boasting over 50 million members worldwide. Since the young age of 8, Heimans has been an active campaigner, running media campaigns and lobbying leaders on issues ranging from children’s rights to nuclear non-proliferation in his native Australia.

In addition to his entrepreneurial pursuits, Heimans is an acclaimed author. Alongside Henry Timms, he co-wrote the national bestseller "New Power: How Power Works in Our Hyperconnected World - and How to Make It Work for You." The book provides insightful analysis of power dynamics in our increasingly interconnected society and was praised by the New York Times’ David Brooks as “the best window I’ve seen into this new world." It was short-listed for the 2018 FT & McKinsey Business Book of the Year and named Best Book of the Year by several established organizations, including Bloomberg, Fortune, Inc., and CNBC, among others.

Heimans is a well-respected figure in the global business community, being ranked 11th on Fast Company's annual list of the 100 Most Creative People in Business. His innovative thinking on new power has been featured as the Big Idea in Harvard Business Review, and his top-rated TED talk on the topic has been viewed more than 1.5 million times. He was also bestowed with the Ford Foundation's 75th Anniversary Visionary Award for his exceptional contribution towards creating a better world. Furthermore, Heimans has served as the chair of the World Economic Forum’s Global Agenda Council on Civic Participation.

Jeremy Heimans was educated at Harvard University and the University of Sydney, and began his career with the strategy consultants McKinsey & Company. Currently residing in New York, Heimans continues to influence change on a global scale through his various initiatives and his powerful keynote speeches at eminent venues such as the World Economic Forum at Davos, the Aspen Institute Ideas Festival, the RSA, Chatham House, and the United Nations, among others.

Jeremy Heimans, co-founder and CEO of Purpose, has won the Inspired Leadership Award (ILA), a prize recognising the potential of emerging leaders to positively impact lives on a global scale for generations to come. The award was presented by Jeremy Hillman, chairman of the ILA committee, this evening at The Performance Theatre in Lisbon.
