I’m Jill Shapiro, and this is my personal story of discovering what has become the passion and inspiration for everything I do: A Life of Holistic Health and Wellness.

I had always considered myself a ‘healthy’ eater.

I did the usual things: I attempted to eat in moderation and limit my calorie intake. I kinda knew how much salt and saturated fat I was consuming. I tried to curb my sugary temptations… and, I persuaded myself into thinking I got my 5-a-day, everyday.

In hindsight… not so much. My journey toward a truly honest relationship with food, and myself, began a few years ago. Like any good story, it started with a crisis: I was having major digestive issues. As many people would, my first instinct was to visit as many medical doctors as necessary until one of them prescribed medication to alleviate my symptoms.

I suffered through months of a vicious cycle that included misdiagnoses and medication that simply masked my underlying issue. Not one doctor or prescription successfully healed me.

In the meantime, I was juggling a full-time job while also working to attain my MBA. The stress of my work-load sent me reeling back to my doctor, who prescribed more medication. This time, it was in the form of anxiety and sleeping pills, and again, was not the solution.

That’s when I had my ‘A-Ha’ moment.

If expert doctors and medicine couldn’t fix me, who could I rely on? So it hit me: this is my life and my life alone. I knew myself better than I thought I did… so now was the time to trust myself. With the right motivation, I knew I could find the tools and knowledge to heal myself.

So I began doing my own research. The more I found, the more I was convinced that I needed to become much more mindful of what I was (and wasn’t) putting into my body. This is when I began to change the way I ate.

I committed to one small change every day, over a period of weeks and months. I dropped unhealthy habits like too much caffeine and alcohol in favor of restorative behaviors like yoga, meditation, and green juice. Soon, many small steps accumulated into a profound shift in my entire being.

Not only did my digestive and anxiety problems go away, but amazing, unexpected things started happening. I had increased energy, decreased stress, and was sleeping better than ever. I felt lighter and full of life. In a word, I was happy.

And that’s when my passion was born.

My personal journey utterly transformed my life – I was fully engaged in a life of Holistic Health. I knew from that moment on that my mission was to help others find their own path toward this liberating way of life.

But how?

With my awareness in full-swing, I came across the revered Institute for Integrative Nutrition, and it was love at first sight. I knew immediately that enrolling in the Holistic Health Coaching Program was the next step in fulfilling my vision of helping others.

The experience at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition was more fulfilling than I ever imagined, and every single day is confirmation that I’m where I’m supposed to be. I have found, over and over, that the principles and practices of Holistic Health prove to be an empowering and effective way to change your life for the better.

I am a Certified Health Coach from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition and Board Certified by the American Association of Drugless Practitioners (AADP). I have completed my Certification in Plant-Based Nutrition from Cornell University. I have also earned my MBA from Baruch College and a BS from the University of Delaware.

I am thrilled to begin sharing my knowledge with others, offering tools and guidance to help you find your own unique path toward Holistic Health.
