Executive Vice President, Booz Allen Hamilton

Joan Dempsey is a senior vice president at Booz Allen Hamilton, where she leads the firm’s Maryland-based intelligence business. Previously, she led the firm’s intelligence business in the Department of Homeland Security and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence. President George W. Bush appointed her to executive director of the Foreign Intelligence Advisory Board. She was the first deputy director of central intelligence for community management, a position in the Clinton Administration. She spent 17 years in the Defense Department, including as deputy director of intelligence at the Defense Intelligence Agency and deputy assistant secretary of defense for intelligence and security. She has served as special advisor to the commander of US Strategic Command; chaired the Intelligence, Reconnaissance, and Surveillance Panel of the Command’s Strategic Advisory Committee; and most recently chaired a joint industry-government task force on Smart Change in the intelligence community for the Intelligence and National Security Alliance.
