Joe Bernstein is the President & Co-founder of Terriblyclever Design and Co-founder of Periscope. Periscope is a live video streaming app for iPhone and Android. Bernstein and his partner came up with the idea while traveling abroad in 2013.

Bernstein and his partner founded the company in February 2014, under the name Bounty. They raised $1.5 million from Founder Collective, Scott Belsky, Maveron, Google Ventures, Menlo Ventures, Bessemer, Stanford – StartX and Sam Shank in April 2014.

Periscope was acquired in January 2015 by Twitter before the product had been publicly launched. Periscope was launched on March 26, 2015. Later, on May 26, 2015, Periscope was released for Android.

On August 12, 2015, it was announced that Periscope had surpassed 10 million accounts, just four months after it was launched. It was noted that over 40 years of video was being watched per day. On December 9, 2015, Apple named Periscope as the iPhone App of the Year.

Periscope was featured on "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" with Berntein's partner, Kayvon Beykpour, as a guest on December 18, 2015. In addition to sharing the inspiration for Periscope, its sale history included meeting Periscope's mission, which was to get it into as many hands as possible, thus Twitter. Beykpour gave Colbert a one-on-one tutorial, which was recorded live then edited for its showing three hours later.
