Joe Kiani is chairman and CEO of Masimo, a medical technology company. Kiani has been a beacon for patient safety and innovation in health care for more than 20 years. He founded Masimo in 1989 to improve the accuracy of noninvasive patient monitoring. Masimo has grown from a "garage startup" into a publicly traded company employing more than 2,500 people worldwide. Kiani and Masimo have helped to solve the "unsolvable" problems plaguing patient monitoring while building an intellectual property portfolio of more than 575 issued and pending patents worldwide. Kiani works with legislators in Washington, D.C., to create public policy that supports innovation and promotes good health-care decisions. In 2011, he founded the Masimo Political Action Committee to spotlight issues that will shape health-care policy. In 2012, he won the Ernst & Young National Entrepreneur of the Year award in life sciences. He is also responsible for creating the Patient Safety, Science & Technology Summit.
