Joe Maddon

Former MLB Manager for the L.A. Angels, Tampa Bay Rays & Chicago Cubs; Founder, Respect 90 Foundation

Joe Maddon is former 19-year MLB manager with the Tampa Bay Rays, Chicago Cubs and Anaheim Angles. Prior to the big leagues, Maddon spent 15 years in the minor leagues as a player, scout and manager. He is the architect of two of the most dramatic turnarounds in MLB history – leading the Tampa Rays to the World Series in 2008 after finishing the previous year with the worst record in baseball and guiding the 2016 Chicago Cubs to the World Series title after a 108 year championship drought.

A three-time Manager of the Year, Maddon led his clubs to the postseason eight times including four division titles. He was also a World Series Champion in 2002 as the bench coach for the Anaheim Angles. Maddone is one of only four managers in MLB history to go to the postseason four or more times and have not played in the major leagues.

A native of Hazelton, PA, Maddon is very charity minded through his Respect 90 Foundation and the Hazelton Integration Project (HIP) which he helped create. HIP aims to provide educational, cultural and athletic opportunities to children from a variety of ethic backgrounds across the Hazelton community.

Maddon is also the author of the "Book of Joe" with esteemed baseball writer Tom Verducci which delves into his unorthodox leadership and culture-building style that has turned Maddon into one of the sport’s most unique figures.

Joe Maddon fired as Los Angeles Angels manager
If it was strictly up to Angels GM Perry Minasian, manager Joe Maddon might have been fired during the winter with Buck Showalter replacing him. The Angels instead decided to wait, giving Maddon one more chance to turn around the Angels’ fate. It never happened. Their 12-game losing streak took care of that, and Tuesday, Maddon was fired by the Angels and replaced on an interim basis by third base coach Phil Nevin.
