Joe Selby is executive director of the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI), where he works to identify and address strategic issues and opportunities and implement the research agenda authorized by the institute's board. Prior to PCORI, Selby was a researcher at Kaiser Permanente, Northern California, for 27 years. In 2009, Selby was elected to membership in the Institute of Medicine. Earlier, he served as a commissioned officer in the Public Health Service from 1976 to 1983 and received the Commissioned Officer's Award in 1981. Selby received a master's degree in public health from the University of California, Berkeley, and his M.D. from Northwestern University.
