Joel L. Dawson is co-founder and chief technology officer at Eta Devices, a semiconductor company that builds microchips designed to save energy in smartphones, Wi-Fi devices, and cellular base stations. His first business was a startup, Aspendos Communications, which he co-founded in 2003, shortly after completing his doctorate at Stanford. He is the Mark Hyman Jr. Career Development Professor at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He received the National Science Foundation CAREER Award in 2008, and was selected for the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers in 2009. He was also recognized in 2006 with MIT’s Jerome H. Saltzer Award for Teaching Excellence.
