Joel McHale

Host of E! Network's "The Soup" & Star of NBC's Hit Comedy Series "Community"

Joel McHale is one of the most sought-after comedians in the industry today, whose work ranges from film and television to hosting live shows to touring with his hit stand-up act.

McHale is best known for his starring role as Jeff Winger on the classic comedy series "Community," and as the long-time host of E!’s Emmy-nominated variety show "The Soup." Currently, McHale writes, produces, and stars on his own comedy series "The Joel McHale Show," which streams weekly on Netflix. He also has a recurring role as Chris on Netflix’s popular "Santa Clarita Diet."

Recently, Joel starred in Netflix’s original film, "A Futile and Stupid Gesture," opposite Will Forte, and also had a cameo as himself in Netflix comedy "Game Over, Man!." McHale will star in upcoming Sam Levinson’s indie thriller "Assassination Nation."

From 2016 to 2017, McHale starred in CBS sitcom "The Great Indoors," where he played a renowned adventure reporter who took a desk job in the digital department of a magazine. He also appeared in several episodes of Fox's "The X-Files" between 2016 and 2018.

In 2015 McHale wrapped the twelfth and final season of E!'s "The Soup," in which he satirized pop culture and current events. He also hosted the 2015 ESPY Awards on ABC. The previous year McHale hosted the annual White House Correspondents' Association Dinner in Washington D.C.

McHales other film roles credits "A Merry Friggin Christmas" opposite Robin Williams, the Jerry Bruckheimer-produced supernatural thriller "Deliver Us From Evil," romantic comedy "Blended" alongside Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore, Seth MacFarlane's comedy smash "Ted," rom-com "What’s Your Number?" with Anna Ferris and Chris Evans, David Frankel’s "The Big Year," and Steven Soderbergh’s "The Informant."

In the fall of 2016 McHale released his first book, "Thanks For The Money: How to Use My Life Story To Become The Best Joel McHale You Can Be," which is part memoir, part self-help guide, part satire.

Born in Rome and raised in Seattle, Washington, McHale was a history major at the University of Washington where he also was a member of their championship football team. He received his Master's of Fine Arts from UW's Actor's Training Program.
