Joel Rose is founder and former CEO of School of One, an initiative within the New York City Department of Education that uses a mix of live, online, and collaborative learning to provide students with instruction that is customized to their unique academic needs and learning preferences. The initiative was named by TIME magazine as one of the top 50 inventions of 2009. Prior to School of One, Rose most recently served as the chief executive for human capital at NYCDOE, which has more than one million students in more than 1,440 schools. He also served the department as a strategic consultant. Rose has been involved in education for more than 14 years, first as a Teach For America corps member and later as a senior executive at Edison.Rose is a graduate of the 2006 class of The Broad Superintendents Academy.
