Joey McIntyre

Singer & Actor Known for Having Been a Member of Pop Group New Kids of the Block; Alzheimer's Awareness Advocate

Joey McIntyre is a singer-songwriter and actor who is known for having been the youngest member of the late-1980s pop group New Kids on the Block.

McIntyre joined New Kids on the Block in 1985 when he was just 13 years old, replacing Mark Wahlberg. The band experienced great success, and in 1991, they were listed as the highest-earning entertainers in the world by Forbes, ahead of superstars including Madonna and Michael Jackson.

The band initially split in 1994, but they reunited in 2008 and have been together since.

After New Kids on the Block disbanded in 1994, McIntyre made his acting debut in 1995 film The Fantasticks and kept busy writing songs and looking for a solo recording deal.

After struggling to obtain a solo contract, McIntyre financed his debut solo album, Stay the Same, on his own and sold it on his website. He then chose the album's title track as a single and took it to local Boston DJs, which eventually garnered the song national airplay. The combination of airplay and website sales for the single led to him signing a recording contract in 1999 with Sony Music USA, under the C2 label, a subsidiary of Columbia Records, which had previously been home to New Kids on the Block. The album was re-released on Sony's Work Records and sold more than a million copies around the world and the single "Stay The Same" peaked at #10 in the Billboard Hot 100.

McIntyre has appeared in several theater productions, both on- and off-Broadway, including "Wicked," in which he played Fiyero, the lead male role; "Cabaret;" "Waitress;" "Tick, Tick...Boom!;" "Happy Days;" and "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum."

McIntyre is also an advocate for awareness and prevention of Alzheimer's disease, which his mother battled for many years, eventually dying of it. In 2013, McIntyre ran the Boston Marathon to raise awareness of the heartbreaking disease.
