Porter Knight founded Organized by Knight (now Porter Knight, LLC) in 1996 with the tagline "strategies to increase productivity." Back then, the concept of "Professional Organizer" was still foreign to most people. Born with an abundance of confidence, Porter has learned over the years that she can (and loves to!) give it away.

"I believe in people’s ability to create change and to achieve their dreams. In every encounter with another human being, my goal is to leave that person with a greater sense of their own competence, to elevate their confidence by showing them their own capabilities."

Porter graduated from Middlebury College with a degree in Political Science. She worked for 7 years in the environmental field, establishing county-wide recycling programs and teaching waste reduction, composting, and use of alternatives to household hazardous products. After informally teaching organizing strategies to fellow students, co-workers, business colleagues, non-profit organizations, family and friends, she finally made it a business in 1996.

Being organized isn’t a measurement of character, but of decision-making, and anyone can learn and practice decision-making skills.

It isn’t enough to just get a lot done - it has to have purpose, meaning, and balance.

It feels GOOD to decide. It is FUN to reassert yourself. And it is ENERGIZING to move forward. Organizing isn’t about being perfect, it is about movement in the direction you choose. And it is powerful!
