John Choma

President of the Leadership Huddle; Former Football Player and Super Bowl Champion

These days teams and organizations face enormous challenges in achieving their missions. A seasoned speaker, John Choma is a model of perseverance who encourages every audience member to maximize their talents within their unique roles and be willing to adjust their individual behaviors so that team dynamics work in everyone's favor.

As a football player, John went from one of the country's worst college football programs, to playing in the NFL, only to be cut four times. Then, after earning a spot with the San Francisco 49ers, he played a key role in their Super Bowl XVI victory over the Cincinnati Bengals. Under the leadership of Bill Walsh, the assistant coaches and great team players, that victory—the 49ers first Super Bowl win—fostered the “Best NFL Team of the Decade.”

In business, John relied on a commitment to life-long learning to manage the transition from Candlestick Park to Silicon Valley. Starting as a systems sales trainee, he soon became a top salesperson, sales training manager, Vice President of Performance, and eventually Chief Learning Officer focused on the power of the organization as a team. A proponent of Peter Senge's concept of “Learning Organizations,” he led development of a corporate university, knowledge management system and multiple leadership development programs.

With a Masters in the Science of Organizational Leadership, and engaging style, John enables audiences to understand key leadership principles and high-performing team dynamics through the story of the “Cinderella” 1981 49er Super Bowl team.
