John F. Crowley's professional journey is as diverse as it is inspiring. As the Executive Chairman and founding CEO of Amicus Therapeutics, Crowley has made significant strides in the biotechnology industry. His commitment to this field was sparked in 1998 when two of his children were diagnosed with Pompe disease, a rare and debilitating disorder. This personal connection to a global health issue helped to shape Crowley's career, making him a respected figure in the industry.
Alongside his responsibilities at Amicus Therapeutics, Crowley also held the position of Vice Chair of the Biotechnology Innovation Organization (BIO). This role further solidified his standing in the biotechnology community. Additionally, Crowley's service as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Navy Reserve from 2005-2016 allowed him to demonstrate leadership and resilience, both of which are critical skills in the realm of public speaking. His educational background, which includes a B.S. from Georgetown University, a J.D. from the University of Notre Dame Law School, and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School, provides him with a wealth of knowledge across various fields.
Crowley's notable achievements extend beyond the professional and academic realms. He was awarded a Doctor of Laws Degree and the Family Exemplar Award by Notre Dame, reflecting his commitment to family and community. As the former National Chairman of the Make-A-Wish Foundation of America, he has shown a deep commitment to philanthropy and social well-being. Crowley's involvement as a Henry Crown Fellow at the Aspen Institute and a member of the Horatio Alger Association further underscores his dedication to leadership and service. To top it all, his life story has been depicted in the 2010 movie "Extraordinary Measures," highlighting the resilience and determination that make him a compelling and engaging speaker.
