John E. Deasy is the former superintendent of Los Angeles Unified School District, where he lead thousands of teachers, administrators, and staff in the nation's second largest school district. Prior to LAUSD, Deasy was deputy director of education for the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. He joined the foundation after serving as superintendent of Prince George's County (Maryland) Public Schools, where he earned a national reputation for his leadership in significantly narrowing the achievement gap between low-income and minority students and their peers.
