Author of the #1 National Best-Seller "Marley & Me: Life and Love with the World's Worst Dog"

John Grogan is the author of the #1 international bestseller Marley & Me: Life and love with the world's worst dog, which has sold eight million copies, been translated into more than 30 languages worldwide, and was made into a major motion picture starring Owen Wilson and Jennifer Aniston. His second book, the bestselling memoir The Longest Trip Home, explores the complicated intersection of parental expectations and a son’s journey to find his own way in the world.

John is also the author of numerous books for children, including two #1 bestselling picture books, Bad Dog, Marley! and A Very Marley Christmas. His middle-grade adaptation Marley: A Dog Like No Other was a Scholastic Books pick and brought delight to thousands of school children.

A native of Detroit, John spent 25 years as a journalist for daily newspapers, most recently as a metropolitan columnist for the Philadelphia Inquirer. He is the former editor of Rodale’s Organic Gardening magazine. More recently, John has served as an adjunct professor at Lehigh University, teaching narrative nonfiction writing. In 2018, he was a lecturer-in-residence at Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland.

His writing has appeared in numerous national publications, including The New York Times, The New York Times Book Review, Parade, USAWeekend, and Time. He has appeared on Good Morning America, Today, the CBS Morning Show, Fox & Friends, CNN, National Geographic Channel, and the BBC, among others.

John is the recipient of the 2006 Quill Book Award for best biography/memoir and best audiobook, both for Marley & Me. He was a finalist for the 2007 British Book Award in the biography category.

John holds a master of arts degree in journalism from The Ohio State University, where he was a Kiplinger Fellow in Public Affairs Reporting. In 2007, he was awarded an honorary doctorate of letters from Central Michigan University, his undergraduate alma mater.

John speaks frequently at writing conferences, universities, schools, literacy events, fundraisers, and other public and private functions.

He and his wife, Jenny, live with their two surprisingly well-behaved Labrador retrievers, Woodson and Wallace, in Pennsylvania’s Lehigh Valley.
