John Heilemann
Co-Host, "With All Due Respect;" Managing Editor, Bloomberg Politics & New York Times Best Seller
John Heilemann is managing editor of Bloomberg Politics, leading Bloomberg's political and policy coverage, including news, analysis, commentary, and data analytics across all of the company's platforms. He is also the co-host of "With All Due Respect," a daily political TV show on Bloomberg TV and a regular contributor to MSNBC’s "Morning Joe." Heilemann co-authored "Game Change: Obama and the Clintons, McCain and Palin, and the Race of Lifetime," the No. 1 New York Times best seller chronicling the 2008 presidential campaign and it's New York Times best-selling sequel, "Double Down: Game Change 2012."
Prior to joining Bloomberg, Heilemann was the national affairs editor for New York magazine and NYMag.com. At New York, he wrote the must-read "Power Grid" column in print and the "Impolitic" column online, as well as longer features in the magazine. Prior to joining New York in 2005, Heilemann spent nearly two decades covering politics, business and their intersection in America and abroad as a staff writer for The New Yorker, Wired and The Economist. His first book, "Pride Before the Fall: The Trials of Bill Gates and the End of the Microsoft Era," was named by BusinessWeek as one of the best books of 2001. His writing has been anthologized in The Best American Political Writing three times and in The Best American Crime Writing.
With "Game Change," Heilemann and his co-author Mark Halperin published what was widely hailed as the definitive account of the 2008 election. The book was a runaway national and international best seller and has been reprinted in eight languages. A movie based on "Game Change"—starring Julianne Moore, Woody Harrelson and Ed Harris—premiered on HBO in 2012 and went on to win five Emmy Awards, including Best Miniseries or Movie and three Golden Globes, including Best Miniseries or Motion Picture Made for Television. In "Double Down," which debuted at No. 2 on The New York Times bestseller list, Heilemann and Halperin told the inside story of Barack Obama's reelection over Mitt Romney. HBO has optioned the film rights to the book. His four-part documentary on the rise of the World Wide Web, "Download," aired on the Discovery Channel in 2008.
Heilemann produced and co-starred in Showtime's "The Circus: Inside the Greatest Political Show on Earth," following the presidential candidates behind the scenes of their campaigns in the 2016 Presidential Election. The fifth season premiered in January, 2020. The second half of the fifth season is set to premiere in August of 2020.
Heilemann holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism and political science from Northwestern University and a master's degree from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard. A native of Los Angeles, CA, he lives in Brooklyn, NY, with his wife, Diana Rhoten.

Washington Today and the 2016 Race for the White House
With the shift to the Republican-controlled Congress and the country now focused on the 2016 Presidential election, John Heilemann surveys the battlefield, explaining how all sides see the upcoming issues facing America and the strategies and solutions to solving the looming fiscal crisis to reducing the deficit. Drawing on his two decades covering American politics and policy, Heilemann offers both an insider’s take, bringing audiences into both parties’ war rooms, and a far-seeing analysis of this moment of political and economic upheaval. With bracing candor and sparkling wit, Heilemann connects the dots between events in Washington and the larger forces outside the Beltway, takes on the big questions—How will President Obama govern during the last two years of his term? What are the chances of the Republican Party taking back the White House ? And what about the Tea Party?—explaining the repercussions for governing in the months and years to come.
Game Over: The New New Normal
As Washington remains locked in a state of paralysis and the economy struggles to recover from the Great Recession, much of the American public is convinced that the country is experiencing something close to total system failure. In this presentation, John Heilemann explains the factors and forces that have brought us to this place of acute partisan polarization and economic stagnation, laying blame at the feet of Democrats and Republicans alike. But all is not lost. The American electorate is nowhere near as messed up as its governing institutions, and as they demand a new way forward, one is on the horizon—which Heilemann lays out with his customary passion, enthusiasm, and sense of humor.
