John Jumper

Director at Google DeepMind; 2024 Nobel Prize Winner in Chemistry

John Jumper is an American computer scientist and the current Director of Google’s DeepMind, an AI development company. He was awarded the 2024 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for his work using artificial intelligence to find the three-dimensional structure of proteins. He shared half the prize with his colleague, English computer scientist Demis Hassabis, and the other half of the prize was awarded to American biochemist David Baker.

Jumper and Hassabis first presented an AI model called AlphaFold2 in 2020. With its help, they have been able to predict the structure of virtually all known proteins. AlphaFold2 has been widely used in many areas, including research into pharmaceuticals and environmental technology.
