John Quackenbush      

Professor, Computational Biology & Chair, Department of Biostatistics, Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health

John Quackenbush is a professor of biostatistics and computational biology, a professor of cancer biology at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI), and a professor of computational biology and bioinformatics at the Harvard School of Public Health. He also holds the position of director of the Center for Cancer Computational Biology (CCCB) at the DFCI, an institution he has been instrumental in shaping since its inception in 2009. His research is focused on developing new methods for integrative genomic data analysis, inference of gene networks, and understanding the role that variation plays in defining phenotype.

Quackenbush's work extends beyond academic research. He is the CEO of Genospace, a software company that specializes in tools for precision genomic medicine. He has also been active in the validation of toxicogenomic technologies and has made significant contributions to functional genomics. His work as a lung genomics research consortium investigator is well-acknowledged, and he has been proactive in incorporating clinical data into genomic research.

Quackenbush's commitment to advancing our understanding of genetics is also evident in his literary contributions. He has authored "The Human Genome: Book of Essential Knowledge" and edited a book on the evolution of translational omics. His publications have been recognized by Google Scholar and the Scopus bibliographic database. He has also received a fellowship to study chemotherapy-resistant ovarian cancers and served on several committees at the National Academies and the Institute of Medicine.

Quackenbush's efforts in promoting transparency and accessibility in science were recognized when he was honored as a White House Open Science Champion of Change in 2013. He often represents the scientific community at the White House, celebrating the "Open Science" champions of change. His consistent work in computational biology, bioinformatics, and cancer biology has also led him to launch an analysis consultancy center, further assisting in the progress of these vital fields.
