John Stone  

Known for his ability to meld the world of medicine with literature and poetry, John Stone is an author, poet, and practicing cardiologist.

He offers unique presentations on medicine that draw upon his diverse and colorful background and talents. A master storyteller, his speeches are filled with entertaining anecdotes that illustrate his topics, which include the human side of medicine, and the patient as a teacher. His perspectives into the world of medicine are, by turns, serious, funny, educational, and always compelling.

Stone has spoken for audiences in 36 states. He has been plenary speaker for annual meetings of The Institute for Health Care Improvement, The American College of Physicians, and The Picker Institute. He has made speaking appearances at Yale, Stanford, Vanderbilt, and The Mayo Clinic, over 150 institutions in all. Media coverage of his work includes a front-page story in The Wall Street Journal and an interview on CBS Sunday Morning.

Stone's writings have appeared widely, from The New York Times Magazine to Southern Living. He is co-editor of ON DOCTORING, an anthology presented to every U.S. medical student (by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation) since 1991. A total of 175,000 copies have been distributed.
