John Travolta is one of Hollywood's most popular and enduring actors. He was born in Englewood, New Jersey as one of six children of Helen Travolta and Salvatore/Samuel J. Travolta. His father was of Italian descent and his mother was of Irish ancestry. His father owned a tire repair shop called Travolta Tires in Hillsdale, NJ.

He has starred in some of the most monumental films of our generation, including "Saturday Night Fever," "Grease," "Urban Cowboy," "Pulp Fiction," "Get Shorty," "Faceoff," and "Hairspray." His films have spanned decades, becoming ingrained in our popular culture, and earning Travolta legions of fans across many generations. Travolta's versatility as an actor has earned him two Academy Award nominations, BAFTA and Golden Globe wins and numerous other honors from the industry.

Travolta has been honored twice with Academy Award nominations, the latest for his riveting portrayal of a philosophical hit-man in Quentin Tarantino's “Pulp Fiction.” He also received BAFTA and Golden Globe nominations for this highly-acclaimed role and was named Best Actor by the Los Angeles Film Critics Association, among other distinguished awards. Travolta garnered further praise as a Mafioso-turned-movie producer in the comedy sensation “Get Shorty,” winning the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy.

Travolta is also a licensed pilot who travels the world in his own 707 aircraft on humanitarian missions. He flew to New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina to bring food and medical supplies. Most recently he flew to Haiti after its devastating earthquake, delivering doctors, volunteers and supplies.

For his humanitarian efforts, the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics Foundation awarded Travolta their Ambassador of Aviation Award.
