Johnny Kingdom
Television Presenter, a true British Eccentric with an endearing and charming manner.
As a native Devonian, Johnny has for the last seven years been making television series and documentaries about Exmoor and Somerset life. Johnny provides a fresh touch to English wildlife programming. A natural communicator. In his time he has been a farm worker, a quarry man, a lumberjack and for over 50 years a grave digger as was his father before him. He is currently filming his second series for BBC 2, ‘What Johnny Did Next ‘a follow up to the extremely popular ‘A Year On Exmoor’. A true British eccentric with an endearing and charming manner. A charismatic speaker.
Johnny provides a fresh touch to English wildlife films and photography. He has been a farm worker, a quarry man, a lumberjack, a poacher, and for over 50yrs the grave digger for his local Parish but his predominating passion is filming the wildlife on his beloved Exmoor. He has produced over 26 wildlife videos of his own and a two hour audio tape. He has also appeared on breakfast TV, documentaries and children’s TV, for the BBC, YTV HTV and Channel 4.
Apart from 2yrs National Service in the Army Regimental Police in Hong Kong, he has always lived on Exmoor and for the last 25 years he has been engaged filming its wildlife. He writes ‘When I was young I was the biggest rogue in town’ but age has mellowed this loveable character and this ‘softer and more patient’ side is echoed in his success in capturing the wild beauty of Exmoor. Johnny is the first to admit that he didn’t enjoy the academic side of school but nearly always came top of the class in Art and the gift of an old Box Brownie one summer saw the beginning of a love affair with captured images.
For the last nine years he has been making television series and documentaries for HTV about Exmoor and Somerset life wildlife with Available Light Productions based in Bristol. He is currently filming his second series for the BBC entitled What Johnny Did Next’. He has also made two Christmas ‘special’ for the BBC last year found him up at the edge of the Artic Circle in Finland racing reindeer and this year he has been closer to home in Scotland looking at deer. He is greatly in demand for personal appearances and is fascinating speaker.
