Johnny Manziel

Former NFL Quarterback Drafted by the Cleveland Browns; Mental Health & Substance Use Awareness Advocate

Johnny Manziel is a former college football star and NFL quarterback from Tyler, Texas. After an electrifying career at Texas A&M, Manziel became the first freshman to win the Heisman Trophy in 2012. That season, he set an SEC record for total offense with 5,116 yards and was responsible for 47 total touchdowns (passing and rushing).

Manziel owns the top four single-game total offense marks in Texas A&M history. He led the Aggies to back-to-back bowl wins, including rushing for 229 yards against Oklahoma in the 2013 Cotton Bowl.

Manziel was drafted by the Cleveland Browns in the 1st round of the 2014 NFL Draft. His professional career was brief, playing just two seasons while dealing with personal issues off the field. Today, Manziel is focused on health, mental wellness, and using his platform to raise awareness around these important topics. He has been open about his struggles with mental health and substance abuse, sharing his journey towards a positive, purposeful life after fame at such a young age. Manziel hopes to inspire others through vulnerability and advocacy in this space.
