Jonathan Grima's researched has helped develop the Nuclear Pore Hypothesis of neurodegeneration, which posits that defects in the nuclear pore complex may be a common factor in a number of degenerative diseases like ALS. This has led to new drug targets and compounds to treat such diseases. He was also listed as one of Forbes 30 Under 30 in 2019.
