Jorge Ramos
ESPN Sportscaster and Lead Host of ESPN Deportes TV & the Radio Show Named "Jorge Ramos y Su Banda"
Jorge Ramos, better known as “el relator de las Américas” – commentator of the Americas – is synonymous with soccer for millions of fans in the U.S. He joined ESPN Deportes Radio as the network’s lead commentator in 2005 and in 2009 his duties where expanded to include ESPN Deportes Television.
With his trademark combination of enthusiasm and knowledge, Ramos brings the passion from the soccer field to the airwaves on Jorge Ramos y Su Banda, ESPN Deportes Radio’s daily soccer program (simulcast on ESPN Deportes TV). Ramos also serves as a soccer play-by-play commentator for ESPN Deportes and often collaborates on ESPN’s soccer coverage in English as a reporter and play-by-play commentator.
During his illustrious thirty-year career, Ramos has served as play-by-play commentator for over 3,000 soccer matches, has covered seven FIFA World Cups (Mexico ’86, Italy ’90, USA ’94, France ’98, Korea Republic & Japan ’02, Germany ’06, South Africa ‘10), the 2003 Women’s World Cup and two Copa Americas and European Cups. One of the most gratifying moments in his career was providing play-by-play for the 1986 World Cup—the first-ever FIFA World Cup on Spanish-language radio in the U.S.
A native of Uruguay, Ramos started out in the U.S. as a writer and editor for La Raza, one of Chicago’s leading Spanish-language newspapers. Ramos later worked at Fox Sports en Español where he produced and co-hosted Jorge Ramos en Vivo. Prior to that, he was with Univision Radio, where he co-hosted the national radio soccer show Locura por el Fútbol.
