José Ignacio Peralta Sanchez  

Professor of Political Science (UNED) & Researcher at the European Council on Foreign Relations

José Ignacio Torreblanca is a Professor in the Department of Political Science and Public Administration of the Spanish National Distance Education University (UNED) and is a member of the Juan March Institute for Study and Research. He has been a fellow of the EU-US Fulbright Program, a professor at George Washington University in Washington DC, as well as a researcher at the European University Institute in Florence. From 2004 to 2007 he was the main researcher in the European area at the Royal Elcano Institute of International Studies.

Currently he is the principal researcher and director of the Madrid office of the European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR). Since June 2008 he writes a weekly column on foreign policy, geopolitics and international relations in the newspaper El País. He also writes very often for his own blog, Café Steiner, hosted at elpais.com.

Torreblanca is also the author of several books, chapters in books and articles in journals such as Foreign Policy and the Spanish Journal of Political Science, on topics as the process of decision-making in the European Union, the enlargement policy of the EU and the Spanish-European relations. He also has a wide international experience and has worked with media as The Financial Times, The New York Times, the BBC, the CNN, La Stampa, Foreign Policy o Esglobal, that included Torreblanca among the 10 new faces of Latin American Thought.
