Josep "Pep" Guardiola Sala is a Spanish professional football manager and former player, who is the current manager of Premier League club Manchester City. He is often considered to be one of the greatest managers of all time and holds the record for the most consecutive league games won in La Liga, the Bundesliga and the Premier League.
As a soccer player, Josep "Pep" Guardiola was an acclaimed defensive midfielder who spent the majority of his playing career with FC Barcelona, the professional soccer club based in Barcelona, Spain, but also played for Brescia, Roma, Al-Ahli and Dorados de Sinaloa. He was part of the great Johan Cruyff's "dream team" that won the club's first European Cup and four successive Spanish league titles from 1991 to 1994.
After retiring as a player, Guardiola became a coach at Barcelona in 2008. In his first season, he led the team to the treble of La Liga, the Copa del Rey and the Champions League, becoming the youngest manager to ever win that tournament. In 2011, after leading the club to another La Liga and Champions League double, Guardiola was awarded the Catalan Parliament's Gold Medal, their highest honor and named the FIFA World Coach of the Year. In 2013 Guardiola started coaching at Bayern Munich. He won three Bundesliga titles, with silverware also coming from the DFB-Pokal, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup. He left the Bavarians for Manchester City in 2016, and guided them to a Premier League title in his second campaign in charge, and broke the Premier League record for most consecutive wins, with 18 victories between August and December 2017. He won a second consecutive Premier League and EFL Cup the following season, as well as the FA Cup, becoming the first manager to win the domestic treble in English men's football. His team dominated again the following season, and won it again in 2020/21, while also winning the FA Cup, three more EFL Cups and reaching a UEFA Champions League final. The Citizens dominated throughout the 2017/18 Premier League season, with Guardiola securing his first league title in English football with a record of 106 goals, 32 wins and 100 points. His team retained the title the following season, and won it again in 2020/21, while also winning the FA Cup, three more EFL Cups and reaching a UEFA Champions League final.
