Vanderbilt Distinguished Professor of Physics, Discovered Newest Periodic Element Tennessine

Joseph Hamilton is a Vanderbilt professor of physics and astronomy. He is recognized as a Landon C. Garland Distinguished Professor of Physics.

Hamilton received hi B.S. from Mississippi College in 1954, his M.S. from Indiana University in 1956, and his Ph.D. from Indiana University, 1958.

Hamilton's current research is in the area of Experimental Nuclear Physics. Hamilton has been recently recognized for discovering the newest periodic element, unofficially named Tennessine.
