Joseph Nantomah

The Black Mentor

Joseph Nantomah, popularly known as “the Black Mentor,” has become one of the most notable Nigerian millionaires in the diaspora. His entrepreneurial and philanthropic exploits have earned him recognition from several institutions, including Who is Who Professionals and the Who is Who in America. Nantomah even received recognition from US President Donald Trump with the Presidential Honor Roll. Nantomah owns 16 businesses, including a real estate empire with assets worth over $23 million and Mentor America, a premier coaching company dedicated to providing high-quality life and business coaching. Since its founding, Mentor America has impacted more than 500,000 people worldwide.

Over the past three years, Nantomah has gained the attention of several local and international media outlets, including Fox and the Guardian, and has sponsored many philanthropic projects during the Covid-19 lockdowns. These sponsorships included feeding 25,000 Africans and supporting small businesses in Nigeria, Ghana, and Uganda with equipment through his non-profit, Prosperity for Africa. In 2016, Nantomah migrated to Wisconsin, US, to start a new life with his family. In less than three years, he became both an influential life coach and a serial investor. When he arrived, he had less than $5,000 and no friends or extended family to support him. Nantomah’s attorney informed him that there were no benefits available for the Nantomah family until his papers got approved—a process that took an entire year.

While he waited for his documentation, Nantomah began reading about successful Americans in the public library. In one year, he read 54 books. He realized that all the successful people he read about had real estate investments and decided he would have the same. Nantomah recalls how not wanting to work a 9-5 made him look weird because he had not figured out his real estate business yet. Before his arrival in the US Nantomah enjoyed a successful coaching career teaching mindset and finances throughout Africa. Here in the US he continued with the venture he was good at – coaching. He coached people on what he calls “the three C’s”: credit, cash and collateral.

Coaching in the United States gave him some traction, and he got the attention of Scott Walker—the governor of Wisconsin at the time. Nantomah says he received an email from the governor’s office requesting his attendance for dinner. He recalls initially thinking the email was a scam, but after calling the governor’s office to confirm, Nantomah donned his best suit and went for the meeting. He learned that Governor Walker was interested in the work he was doing. A year after that dinner invitation, Nantomah joined Walker’s campaign team as a project manager covering five cities.

Meanwhile, his real estate picked up steam when he saw an ad for training from renowned real estate mogul, Grant Cardone. Nantomah remembered a lesson from his father to always save for the rainy day, but decided that advice hadn’t led to riches yet. So, with only $1002 left in his bank account and $825 coming due for his rent, Nantomah decided to take the risk and pay $997 to learn how to invest and make money in real estate with no money down. Nantomah says that was the best $997 spent in his life, as he made $8,000 in his very first deal after the Cardone training. Nantomah has since forged forward, closing deals worth millions of dollars.
