Bullying Prevention & Internet Safety Specialist

Josh Gunderson is an anti-bullying and internet safety specialist. Since 2009 he has travelled across North America speaking to parents, students and educators at over 150 schools. Gunderson has a unique way of delivering an educational message, due in part to his firm belief that learning does not have to be boring. Combining humor and sincerity, he presents real-life examples that illustrate potential repercussions of irresponsible behavior. His style instantly rings true with audiences, motivating students to make more positive choices.

Gunderson takes every audience on a roller coaster ride of emotions as he seamlessly illustrates the pros and cons of the online world. In 2010, Gunderson did nothesitate to tackle the growing issue of bullying and the alarming number of suicides that occurred over the year and continue today. His "It Gets Better" video and other bullying related media he has created have been viewed by thousands of people all over the world.

Josh Gunderson is a strong supporter of GLAAD's Spirit Day, GLSEN's Day of Silence and other programs geared not only towards anti-bullying but for equal and fair treatment of all people regardless of race, gender or sexuality.

Gunderson graduated from Salem State University in Massachusetts earning degrees in English and Theatre concentrating in Creative Writing, Secondary Education and Performance. At Salem State Josh served as director of the nationally recognized Human Action Theatre and took an active role on the Salem State Campus. He served as Artistic Director of the Students' Work Theatre Project, Publicist for the Student Theatre Ensemble and Program Council, an was inducted into the Nu Class of Omega Zeta Epsilon (National Residence Hall Honorary). Gunderson graduated from Salem State University receiving the John Sorenson Unsung Hero Award and Salem State's Special Recognition Award. In April 2013 he became the first Alumnus to be inducted into Salem State's Civic Engagement Hall of Fame.

CYBERBULLYING: PERPETRATORS, BYSTANDERS & VICTIMS

What do you do when you see someone being hurt? Do you stand up? Do you back down? This program offers audiences a first-hand look at how social networks, cells phones and other social media are being used attack and bully others with a strong focus on what parents, families and students can do to decrease the harm it causes. Each presentation is fully customized to the audience and includes information about current anti-bullying laws in place within the state.

What should you do if you are being bullied? What if you see someone else being bullied? What happens to your posts and who is watching? "Your Digital Life" shows students true-life stories emerging from the digital world and guides them to form healthy habits and relationships both online and off.

ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS | LET'S GO ONLINE!

This high-energy and interactive program teaches younger students easy to remember online safety rules as well as age-appropriate explanations of online and personal safety risks. The students get involved in the action, helping Josh figure out the four rules on of Digital Citizenship while playing "What Rule Is It Anyway?" Students will learn what it means to be an upstanding Digital Citizen and what it means to leave behind a digital footprint. Afterwards, volunteers are brought to the stage to play "The Ultimate Online Quiz" to test their new-found knowledge of what it means to be a proper digital citizen!

Target Audience: Elementary Level (Grades 1-6)
