Josh McDaniels
Former Head Coach of the Las Vegas Raiders
Josh McDaniels began his journey in the world of football as a wide receiver at John Carroll University between 1995 and 1998. His coaching career, however, took root at Michigan State University in 1999, where he served as a senior graduate assistant. McDaniels' talents were recognized by the New England Patriots, who brought him on board as a personnel assistant in 2001. Over the years, he climbed the ranks to become the team's offensive coordinator, a position he held for 14 non-consecutive seasons. His strategic acumen was instrumental in the Patriots setting the season record for points scored in 2007, a feat that contributed to the team's sweeping victory in all 16 regular-season games.
In addition to his time with the Patriots, McDaniels also served as the head coach of the Denver Broncos from 2009 to 2010 and, subsequently, the Las Vegas Raiders from 2022 to 2023. Despite facing challenges and controversies in both roles, he led the Broncos to an 8-8 season record in his first year at the helm. McDaniels' coaching career also saw him contribute to the St. Louis Rams as an offensive coordinator under head coach Steve Spagnuolo. The breadth of his experience in different coaching roles, coupled with his own history as a player, provided McDaniels with a versatile perspective on the game.
Over the course of his career, McDaniels has demonstrated his value through significant accomplishments, including his involvement in all six of the Patriots' Super Bowl titles during the Brady-Belichick era. His coaching abilities, particularly his innovative offensive play-calling, have been widely recognized in the NFL. McDaniels' expertise and strategic planning have not only led to the success of the teams he's coached but also to the development of star players like Tom Brady. Notably, his knowledge and experience have made him a sought-after figure in the football community, often called upon to share his insights through talks and presentations.
