National Geographic Explorer, Photographer, Filmmaker, Director, Visual Artist

Artist, photographer, filmmaker, designer, director, painter... if it involves visual storytelling, Joshua Howard is probably involved somehow. He was recently named a National Geographic Young Explorer for his twelve-month photo project and twenty-minute documentary film on the topic of mountaintop removal coal mining in Appalachia. He was also chosen as a semifinalist for Wildlife Photojournalist of the Year and received honorable mentions in the International Photo Awards for his landscape, aerial, wildlife, and underwater photography.

Joshua has worked in the editorial photography field and has run successful commercial photo and production studios. He swerved as senior designer and photographer at a leading advertising firm for several years sohe know the ins and outs of the industry and has worked with a long list of satisfied clients. He is also an avid explorer, underwater photographer and a professional scuba instructor, who has trained with both PADI and the Global Underwater Explorers allowing him to be as comfortable shooting below the waves as he is on dry land.

Joshua's environmental project in Appalachia, which showcased the importance of watershed health in the region, led to him photographing a three week National Geographic archaeological expedition in Honduras and assisting a veteran photographer on an underwater photo shoot in Florida & in the Chesapeake that will appear in National Geographic Magazine in the fall of 2012. He is passionate about conservation issues that focus on protecting and documenting our world's oceans, lakes, and river systems and spends as much time in and around the water as possible.
