Actress Known for "10 Things I Hate About You," "Silver Linings Playbook" & "Hustlers"

Julia Stiles is an actress known for her roles in 10 Things I Hate About You, the Bourne films, Mona Lisa Smile and Silver Linings Playbook. She is currently starring as Georgina Clios in the Sky Atlantic series “Riviera," which began airing in 2018.

Stiles, who was born and raised in New York City, began acting at age 11, performing with New York’s La MaMa Theatre Company. Stiles’ first film role was in 1996’s I Love You, I Love You Not, which starred big names such as Jude Law and Claire Danes. Her breakthrough performance, though, came in 1999 with “The Taming of the Shrew” film adaptation, 10 Things I Hate About You, which also starred the late Heath Ledger. For that role, Stiles won an MTV Movie Award for Breakthrough Female Performance.

Stiles became known to a broader audience by playing Nicky Parsons in the Bourne films. In addition to film and television roles, Stiles has also had a successful stage career – having performed David Mamet’s play “Oleanna” on and off Broadway and in London, among other roles.

In 2010, Stiles played Lumen Pierce in 10 episodes of “Dexter,” for which she earned a nomination for the Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series. That performance also earned her a nomination for the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress – Series, Miniseries or Television Film.

In 2005, Stiles graduated from Columbia University with a bachelor’s degree in English literature. In 2010, Stiles received a John Jay Award, an award annually given to five Columbia alumni for professional achievements.

Stiles is an avid fan of the New York Mets and the New York Red Bulls.

Stiles and her husband Preston J. Cook welcomed their first child, Strummer Newcomb, on October 20, 2017.
