Associate Director, Post-Secondary Education

Julie Margetta Morgan is the Associate Director for Postsecondary Education at American Progress. Prior to joining American Progress, she worked as an adjunct faculty member and teaching assistant at Boston College while completing a doctoral program in higher education policy. Julie’s research and publications focus on ensuring access to quality, affordable postsecondary education for all Americans. Her areas of expertise include college information and consumer decision making, as well as federal student financial aid, education technology, regulation, and accreditation. Julie’s interest in these issues stems from her experiences helping low-income students find career opportunities and postsecondary credentials as program coordinator for the Pathways to Success program in New Bedford, Massachusetts. Her work has appeared in The Atlantic, U.S. News and World Report, and The Huffington Post, and she has been cited by The New York Times, The Washington Post, and National Public Radio, among others.

Julie holds a Ph.D. in higher education from Boston College, a J.D. from Boston College Law School, and a B.A. in philosophy from the College of William and Mary. She grew up in Fall River, Massachusetts, and now resides in Washington, D.C., with her husband and son.
