Juliet Asante
Ghanaian movie actress, producer and director
Juliet Yaa Asantewa Asante is a Ghanaian movie actress, producer and director, and philanthropist. She started the production house, Eagle Production[1] in 1999 and Save Our Women International,[2] a non-profit entity focussing on female sexual education and launched Mobilefliks in 2014 which is a short mobile movie-making firm in Africa. Eagle Productions has helped train some actors and actresses in Ghana through its training arm, the Eagle Drama Workshop.[3]
Juliet Asante was born in Ghana and is the second of five children. Asante graduated from University of Cape Coast and the National Film and Television Institute. She holds an MPA from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government.
Juliet started her acting career at the age of eighteen and was awarded ‘Best Actress’ in Ghana in 2001. She later went to the National Film and Television institute of Ghana, where she got her first class honors in Film Directing. She also holds a diploma from the New York Film Academy.
Her acting career began with the Ghana Films from where she has since moved on to act in movies which include Twin Lovers, Fresh Blood, Tears of Blood, Ripples, and Thread of Ananse. Juliet has written, directed and produced shows on Ghana television like; ‘Obaby’, a dating show and ‘Secrets', a drama series. In the last quarter of 2014 she completed work on her first feature film Silver Rain[4] She mentors at the MIT Legatum Institute[5] as an entrepreneur. She is also a blogger for Huffington Post.[6] Juliet appeared in the movie 1996 movie, "Deadly Voyage" as Albert Mensah's wife.[7]
Juliet was the organizer of the Voice Of Africa Forum, aimed at closing the gap between media entrepreneurs and investments, and an active participant in the Africa Media Initiative.[8]
Asante is the editor of Entertainment Today, an entertainment magazine with corresponding television programme, president of the Women in Film and Television (WIFT) chapter in Ghana, the executive producer of Secrets, a drama series set in a pub and owner of the Eagle Drama Workshop.
