Actor and Singer Starring in Fox's, "Empire"

Jussie Smollett is an American actor, singer and photographer. Smollett is best known as an actor, in films such as 1992's The Mighty Ducks, North, and The Skinny. He was born in Santa Rosa, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. He is known primarily for his work on On Our Own with his brothers Jojo, Jake, and Jocqui and his sisters Jazz and Jurnee Smollett.

Smollett made his first acting role debut as Salem Bordeaux in 1991's televised movie A Little Piece of Heaven, followed by other tv series such as, Queen and Coach. To match his acting skills, Smollett is also a talented singer and songwriter, and in 2010, Smollett released a sampler titled, The Poisoned Hearts Club which features the single "Get Em Up".

With his career picking up momentum, Smollett landed roles in the action movie "Born to Race: Fast Track" (2014) and drama "Ask Me Anything" (2014) as well as a guest spot on the TV show "Revenge". The following year, Smollett made his debut playing Jamal Lyon in the Fox Entertainment musical drama "Empire", which has become a ratings giant.

As Jamal, Smollett has been able to showcase his own talents as a singer and songwriter. He contributed several songs to the Empire soundtrack, ultimately scoring his own deal with Columbia Records. In 2019, after five seasons on the show, Fox Entertainment announced that Smollett would not be returning to the role of Jamal Lyon in the sixth season.

While previously avoiding questions about his personal life, Smollett revealed that he was gay in an interview with Ellen DeGeneres on her daytime talk show.
