Kadiatou Diallo

National Spokesperson for the Struggle Against Racial Profiling and Police Brutality.

The mother of the young African man slain by New York City police officers in early 1999, Diallo has become a national spokesperson for the struggle against racial profiling and police brutality.

The tragic story of Amadou was documented in the 2004 film Every Mother’s Son, and was the inspiration for the Bruce Springsteen song, “American Skin (41 Shots).”

TALKING POINTS: In her presentation, Diallo humanizes the tragedy of her son’s death and tells audiences about his life and his love for his adopted country—America. She voices her frustration with the American justice system, which exonerated the officers who killed her son.
