Karen Jett

Do you love your small business? Would you like to still love working in your company ten years from now? Creating and documenting a strong brand and company culture will make this happen.

Karen L. Jett, CMA works with small business owners who love what they do and want a strategic advantage to grow their business or practice. Creating a strategic advantage starts with clearly identifying the elements of your brand: the vision, mission, values and operating guidelines. Once these elements are built into everyday business operations the brand becomes the company culture.

With more than two decades of accounting and business leadership experience, Karen founded Jett Excellence so she could follow her passion for helping small businesses and people to excel. Karen brings a unique business perspective to the table - she understands the challenges leaders face, both operational and financial, on a daily basis. Best known for her down-to-earth, practical approach and quirky sense of humor, Karen makes complex subjects simple to understand and apply.

Karen has a four step process that assists small business owners to identify their brand. She presents this process in presentations, small workshops, and one-on-one mentoring sessions. In addition to brand identification, Karen provides the following services:

  • Strategic planning facilitation (individual companies and small groups)
  • Values identification and integration
  • Meeting facilitation
  • Ethics training
  • Management training
  • Mentoring and executive coaching

Karen specializes in working with small business owners from the sole proprietor or mom-and-pop business owner through small businesses employing up to 500 employees.

“Karen led the strategic planning session for a Board of Directors retreat I attended. Having attended a few in the past, I thought I knew what to expect. However, I was surprised and highly impressed with Karen’s ability to facilitate and direct our group through the process. I was amazed at how quickly it all came together with complete buy-in from everyone. I can honestly say that she is the best I have experienced. True excellence!” Moniginia (Monée) Pressley, M.Ed.

Strategic Plan-ting(TM) Workshop

In this one-day, interactive session, Karen facilitates the step-by-step creation of a business strategic plan. At the end of the day, small business owners leave with:

  • A complete strategic plan - outlining long-term and short-term goals and how they will be achieved.
  • Quarterly goals - along with a detailed action plan for achieving these objectives.
  • Three clarifying questions - to assist in identifying shiny baubles (distractions that look like opportunities) and making strategic decisions.

Participants also receive a one-on-one mentoring call after the workshop.

Targeted Branding - Four Steps to Identifying Your Brand

As a new business owner I was told repeatedly the most important thing is to build and protect your brand. But what is your brand? Your brand is the combination of every action, statement, and image you disseminate and share with the world. During this session you will receive a tool to identify your brand through your vision, mission, values, and operating guidelines.

When these four parts are clear and consistent, you create a strong brand that will result in:

  • A clear, easier to write marketing message
  • Focus- I know what is important now
  • Excitement that drives you forward and attracts customers and clients.

Karen presents Targeted Branding as both an interactive 60-90 minute presentation for groups of any size and as an in depth 1/2 day workshop limited to 6 small businesses.

Stop Chasing Shiny Baubles - How to Improve Focus and Increase Profitability

Frequently distractions are easy to spot. But sometimes a distraction comes packaged looking like an opportunity. Do you know how to tell them apart? Shiny baubles are those distractions that may appear to be opportunities. When we are unable to clearly distinguish between a real opportunity and a shiny bauble, we waste valuable time, money and energy on projects, ideas, and products that never provide the expected return on investment. Worse yet, we may neglect or overlook a true opportunity as we chase after those shiny baubles. Stop Chasing Shiny Baubles can be presented as either a 20 or 60 minute session. In addition to more in depth information, the 60 minute session also includes more audience participation.

Thinking Strategically

Strategic thinking is rooted in a clear understanding of ‘who’ the company is, what it does, and how it’s done. Drawing on the works of Jim Collins and Patrick Lencioni, participants explore the concept of strategic thinking as illustrated by a Zappo’s case study and actively apply it to a second case study exercise. Come prepared to get involved and think strategically. After attending this session, participants will be able to:

  • Explain how the mission, vision, values and operating guidelines define the strategic direction of an organization
  • Apply the strategic thinking concept to their company

This 2-hour interactive session is appropriate for owners and leaders of businesses of all sizes. read less
