Karna Small Bodman
Former Deputy Press Secretary and Writer
Karna Small Bodman was on the air for fifteen years as a television news anchor and reporter in San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Washington, D.C. She also did political commentary for the ABC Network in New York.
When Ronald Reagan was elected President, he named Karna as his Deputy Press Secretary. Later, she switched to foreign policy issues and became the Senior Director and Spokesman for the National Security Council – where she traveled to Arms Control Talks with the Soviets, Summit meetings with various heads of state, and also was sent to several countries in the Far East and South America to give speeches on behalf of the President’s priorities. When she left to accept a position in the private sector, she was the highest ranking woman on the White House staff.
Now, she is writing novels – “political thrillers” inspired by her experiences serving in the White House. Her first novel is titled Checkmate and features characters and scenes inside the White House and throughout the Washington metropolitan area as well as hot spots overseas. Her second book, Gambit, was featured on The Today Show and has the same characters dealing with yet another national security crisis. The third novel, Final Finesse, was published in the spring of 2009. She is currently researching her fourth book. She has been traveling extensively on her book tours and has now given over 140 speeches focusing on White House policies and how they impact today’s books and events.
She and her husband, Dick Bodman, maintain homes in Naples, FL, Washington, D.C. and Jackson, WY.
